Lilac, Common Purple
(Syringa vulgaris) Lilacs in springtime, say no more… Fast growing, its showy, fragrant purple flowers make it a favorite. With green-brown young bark and dense root system, lilacs are often used for windbreaks and highway beautification projects. It thrives in full sun and adapts to a variety of soil types. Songbirds love to nest in the lilacs. No real pest problems exist, but powdery mildew and the lilac borer have been reported occasionally.
