(Aronia melanocarpa) Getting the recognition it deserves, this shrub has white spring flowers, glossy black edible fruit, lustrous green leaves and reddish purple fall foliage. A moderate grower, it transplants easily and is known to be tolerant to drought, salt and pollution. It's very adaptable, thriving in the sun, but tolerating partial shade. It grows well in swampy to dry to sandy soil and is a great food and cover choice for all wildlife. Fungal rot is possible, but not likely.
