Oak, Bur

  • (Macrocarpa) The magestic Bur Oak is know for its large stature, twisted branches, rough bark, and wooly acorns.  Bur Oak is a long- term investment.  Even though it is considered a slow growing tree, it can live up to 200-300 years old.   It prefers full sun to thrive but can handle a variety of soil types and conditions.  While it prefers moderate moisture, it can tolerate moderate drought as well. The wood is used in cabinetry, and for hardwood floors and fence posts.  Birds, squirrels, deer and other wildlife enjoy the acorns. The bur oak is often used in riparian plantings.
